Itinerary

Palace of Queluz (optional visit)

A visit to the Palace of Queluz, known as the Versailles of Portugal. The palace consists of three styles of architecture, Renaissance, Baroque and Neo-Classic. There are splendid French gardens decorated with fountains designed by English artists, statues of Italian artists and a magnificent canal (lake/pool) decorated with 18th century tiles. It was the official residence of King João VI. We can visit the bedroom where the Emperor of Brazil, Pedro I, was born and where he died.

Sintra

Sintra is without a doubt one of the most extraordinary places in Portugal. Its microclimate transforms this small town situated on the slopes of the mountain range “Serra de Sintra” and next to the Atlantic into a major attraction
for visitors who go there to admire its famous castles and palaces or simply taste the traditional food, pastries and sweets. And let’s not forget the souvenir shops selling typical local items. We will stop in the historic center where you will have time to try the famous “travesseiros” and “queijadas” in the Piriquita Pastry Shop and explore the narrow streets of the most romantic town in Portugal. Visit to one of these palaces: National Palace of Sintra, Pena Palace, “Quinta da Regaleira”, Palace of Monserrate. (optional visit)

Lunch

If you would like to have lunch, your guide can recommend restaurants in or around Sintra.

Palacio Nacional de Mafra

The National Palace of Mafra is the most majestic palace in Portugal. It was built in the 18th century during the reign of King João V, the richest monarch of Europe during that period. The gold from “Minas Gerais” in Brazil, a Portuguese colony at the time, financed the enormous constructions executed under the order of this king, namely the Aqueduct of “Águas Livres” in Lisbon and this enormous palace with the private quarters of the King and Queen located at each extremity with distance of 232 meters from each other. The highlights of this visit to the interior of this Barroque palace include the stately library, the nursing ward and hospital, the convent and the Basilica where an atrium is decorated with Italian sculptures and marble features.

Ericeira

One of the oldest fishing towns in Portugal founded by Phoenicians in 1000 B.C. Free time to walk about the pedestrian streets where you can find a variety of local shops, a point of interest for many national and international tourists.
