Alentejo Portugal’s time capsule

The Alentejo region

Alentejo, the largest region of Portugal, composed by golden plains dotted with cork oaks and olive trees. Monsaraz, a walled village with whitewashed houses and cobblestone streets that hang over a hill with a fantastic view for Europe’s largest artificial lake – Alqueva, is one among the many treasures one can explore in this Portuguese outback.

Evora, the capital, A UNESCO World Heritage site, it is known as the museum city, with its walled historic center, and squares where you can breathe a history of over 2000 years. If you are courageous you can visit one of the most macabre chapels in the world, the Bones Chapel , whose walls are lined with skulls and other human bones.

The wines of Alentejo have a millenium tradition along with the olive oil (in 2019 an Alentejo olive oil got the international gold medal) and the amazing variety of delicious cheeses (sheep, goat, cow)
